I love to entertain, and summer works so much better for my house and yard. To kick off the season, I sent out a general group invite to my friends from church; I thought since it was Memorial Day weekend, I’d have a relatively small group. But Sunday morning when I started asking around, the group kept growing in size! So off to my local GFS Marketplace to save the day!
I was debating between
grilling and sub sandwiches. I decided that I’d rather enjoy my guests and have the food ready ahead of time, so I went with the subs. I picked out a 20 lb. smoked turkey breast and had my friends at the store slice it for me – free! Most of our locations do this, just ask! Now that I had my 20 lbs. of lunch meat in the works, I headed to the cooler for some cheese and then grabbed the lettuce, tomatoes, and onions I would need. A swing through the condiment aisle, and a short chat with our manager and my meat was wrapped and ready to go!

When I got home it was assembly time! I set my turkey right in my sink, that made cleaning up even easier. I loaded up my sub buns, repackaged them in their original bags, and sent them to the fridge to chill until my guests arrived.
Then I addressed the cheese. I cut it diagonally, to get more for my money, and the triangles fit better on sub bread, (just ask a very famous SUB shop, they know the WAY!)
I ran my knife through the tomatoes and onions, tore the lettuce apart, found a fork for the pickle jar, and I was ready to rock!
Just before my guests arrived, all I needed to do was pull out the subs, slice them and arrange them on a fantastic platter. I asked my friends to bring the sides, and I kept things simple by only offering water and iced tea to drink. We had a great time enjoying friendship and a beautiful start to what promises to be a lovely summer!
